First, we want to thank Chesapeake Bay Trust for this amazing opportunity and their commitment to our local waterways as well as the community members who work and live in this region.

BRRC was started in 2009 by neighbors and friends committed to changing their community. After watching Back River and the surrounding areas suffer from decades of neglect, they decided to take action.  With the generous support of The Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability we currently operate and maintain the 695 trash boom, and since 2011 we have manually removed over 7.7 million pounds of trash and debris from Back River.

With this generous award from Chesapeake Bay Trust, we’ll be able to have an even greater impact. This funding will allow us to develop the first phase of the Back River Trash Wheel. This wheel will use patented automated technology to assist in automating the removal of trash and debris from the water. We’ve seen the success of the trash wheels in Baltimore City and are so excited for the transformation this will have to Back River.

In addition to The Chesapeake Bay Trust and The Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability, we want to thank Baltimore City and Maryland Department of the Environment for their partnership and contribution to BRRC.   Thank you to our dedicated board of directors, volunteers, donors, sponsors for their tireless commitment to our organization and healthy waterways. Thank you to the communities we serve who put their trust in BRRC.  And congratulations to all the organizations and groups that received funding in this ground breaking settlement!

As our mission states – It’s all about the river.
